Marina Siteía: All round in the S half of the basin. The N half is affected by the sirrocco (SE) which blows from Feb - April and lasts for up until 8 hours. Limani Siteía: From S - NE.
It is built on the ruins of the ancient town of ITEÍA. It flourished during the Byzantine and Venetian. The great poet Vitséntzos Kornáros, who wrote Erotókritos, was born here, of whom there has been placed a statue in the square. The restored Venetian castle is used as an open air theatre. Wine and oil are produced in significant quantities here.
Good holding everywhere
You will find all the goodies usually found in a big city, marine equipment shops, pharmacies, banks, rent auto / moto etc.
It’s probably the only part of north Crete were you actually get to see the real Crete. In addition, the climate in the area is perfect, mild, dry, never going lower than 10° C. Last time I surveyed the area it was mid Dec and I had a good 19° C warming my back. During summer cultural exhibitions called “Kornáreia” are organised. The sultana celebration is held mid-August. The Archaeological Museum (28430 23917) offers exhibits from Eastern Crete. The Folk Art Museum (28430 22861) displays a rich collection of local costumes and furniture.
